River Alness

River Alness – Ross-shire

The River Alness, A Highland Gem

The River Alness (or Averon), a stunning Highland salmon rivera stunning Highland salmon river, is located just north of Inverness. It has recently gained international fame as the filming location for the popular TV show “The Traitors,” filmed at Ardross Castle on the river’s banks. This newfound popularity is expected to draw tourists from around the world, making it a prime destination for salmon fishing enthusiasts.

The Alness is a small river, almost a miniature version of the Findhorn, flowing from Loch Morie into the Cromarty Firth. It offers an extended salmon fishing season, staying open until October 31st, a month longer than the Findhorn and Spey. This makes it an ideal location for clients looking for salmon fishing opportunities after the main season has closed.

Fishing on the Alness

I have been fishing the Alness through Novar Estates since 1980 and have even written a chapter about this amazing little river in my book, “Shadows in the Stream.” My clients and I often fish here in October, after the Findhorn season has closed, and it consistently provides excellent sport. The Novar Estates offer a fantastic sporting experience, and you can find more information on their website: https://www.novarestate.co.uk
