Salmon Fishing on The Upper Home Beat, Darnaway, River Findhorn in 2025

We still have some exciting salmon fishing opportunities available to offer at the spectacular and renowned Upper Home Beat on Darnaway, River Findhorn, which is situated at the lower end of the stunning Findhorn Gorge. We can offer exclusive salmon fishing for up to two rods, of single bank fishing, (with no opposition) and with fishing off the left bank, from late May through to early August. There are some fourteen named pools from the ever productive Essiemore Pool at the top of the beat, meandering all the way down through the superb Whirling Hole pool and finishing at the Gorge Pool just above the Sluie.

The Salmon Leap Pool at Poolie

The famous Salmon Leap Pool at Poolie is also included in the fishing, half way along the beat, where given the right conditions, fish will often be seen ascending the Falls. Fish will also be regularly seen entering the tail of the pool, where they are often tempted to take a well presented fly! So, tighten up the drag just in case! There is also a well-equipped fishing hut situated overlooking the impressive medium to high water pool, Craigie Pool below. This can be another exciting pool watching fish as they run into the enticing and gliding tail!

The Upper Home Beat

The Upper Home Beat is a really exciting stretch of water to fish for the late Spring salmon through the middle of May/June, and then the Grilse and Summer run salmon arrive in late June through July/August. The beat fishes well in low to medium-high water, and for those who enjoy fishing a riffled hitch tube or a surface fly, the Upper Home offers endless opportunities! The Upper Home Beat may be taken on a guided or non-guided basis for a minimum of a two day let.
