Now Taking Bookings for the 2027 Salmon Fishing Season on the River Findhorn
There is a particular stillness on the Findhorn in early spring, when the mist hangs low over the pools and the first fresh salmon of the year are pushing up from the sea. After more than forty years guiding on these rivers, it remains my favourite time of all, and it is never too early to start planning for it.
As this season draws to a close, I am delighted to say that we are now taking enquiries and bookings for the 2027 season. Whether you are hoping for the thrill of a springer in March, a grilse on a warm July evening, or a late summer fish as the season winds down in September, there is some wonderful fishing available, and the best weeks will go quickly.
Here is what we can offer for 2027.
Spring and Summer Salmon Fishing at Altyre Estate
Altyre Estate, on the lower Findhorn near Forres, is one of the finest stretches of salmon water in the north of Scotland, and it holds a special place in my heart. For 2027 we have fishing availability for up to four rods through the prime spring months of March, April and May, when fresh run fish are at their most powerful and the river is at its most dramatic.
We are also able to offer summer salmon fishing at Altyre through June, July and August, right through to the end of the season in September 2027. Given a spate, the summer fishing here can be superb, with grilse and summer salmon running hard through the pools.

The Meads of St John Beat, Darnaway
Directly opposite Altyre, we have some limited salmon fishing availability for up to two rods on the Meads of St John Beat at Darnaway, running from late March into early April 2027.
This is classic Highland spring fishing among ancient oak woods, with deep, holding pools that spring salmon simply cannot resist. Availability here is limited, so if the idea of an early season fish on one of the Findhorn’s most beautiful beats appeals, I would encourage you to get in touch sooner rather than later.

The Upper Home Beat, Darnaway
Further upstream, in the lower Findhorn Gorge, we also have late spring and summer availability on the Upper Home Beat at Darnaway, for up to two rods, from late May through to 7th August 2027.
The Upper Home Beat fishes beautifully as the water settles after spring, and through the summer months it offers peaceful, intimate fishing in some of the most spectacular scenery the river has to offer.
